There is a real misconception that the more you sweat, the more fat you burn. This is not true!
When I worked at Bally and LA Fitness, I would see a lot of people wear sweaters, jackets, and those sweat-jackets that look like foil and trash bags.
I would go up to these gym people and kindly tell them that this does not work. In fact, it could cause you more harm than good.
They looked at me like I just went against what their mamma told them was true. They brushed me off and couldn’t wait till I left, so they could keep on sweating.
I would do the same thing over and over again no matter how annoying I may be.
Do you remember the story I told about me saving a members life at LA Fitness? He tried to sweat away his fat just like this, and it did not work.
I received a lifesaving award from the OC fire department for saving his life. He interrupted my Thursday night football game- Raiders vs. Chargers. And I was working with clients at the time.
How inconsiderate of him. I guess he didn’t hear my warnings.
By forcing your body to heat up when it doesn’t have to, you are putting it at serious risk of a heart attack, and other organ failure. Think of a car engine, or inside of a computer. If they over heat, then what happens? CRASH!!!!
Your body produces sweat in hopes of cooling itself down as quick as possible, so it doesn’t over heat and die.
This is an evolution mechanism. This is why we are the dominate species. Every other animal has to stick out their tongue and pant in order to cool themselves off. Not us, we can keep going as long as we produce sweat and don’t wear any silly sweaters to make ourselves sweat.
OK, I know what your saying- “But I’ve seen it on TV Joaquin.” Maybe it was a fighting moving like Rocky or something.
A lot of boxers and wrestlers use them to to make weight. They need to drop a couple pounds in order to qualify to fight. Since there is no way they will drop a couple fat pounds in a day, they resort to dropping water pounds instead.
It works, but it also leaves them dehydrated.
Under the supervision of a trainer I would accept this, but the majority of us do not need to go to this extreme. Losing water weight will not make you fit better in your clothes from 10 years ago.
Sorry, but you are just going to have to lose weight the old fashion way- nutrition, exercises (resistance, some cardio, mobility), and time.
On the other end of the spectrum, I know its hotter than hell right now, but you don’t want to be working out in a cold room either.
Turn up the AC. A cold room may cause you to cramp-up, or tear a ligament, tendon, or muscle. Keep your body warm but not hot.
I prefer working out in a warm environment.
